Connectors Definition

In electronics, a connector is an electro-mechanical device used to join electrical terminations and create an electrical circuit. Connectors are classified by their pin count and configuration, the number of positions occupied by the mating connectors, and the gender of the connectors. The term ‘connector’ can also refer to the cable assembly that contains one or more connectors.

Most connectors have a distinctive shape that makes them easy to identify. The identification of a connector usually includes its function, such as ‘power’ or ‘signal,’ the number of pins or contacts it has, what type of connector it is, such as ‘D-sub’ or ‘BNC,’ and sometimes the manufacturer’s name or trademark.
