Defect

Defect Definition

A defect is a flaw or problem that prevents something from being perfect. In software development, a defect is an error, omission, inconsistency, or failure in a software application that causes it to produce an incorrect or unexpected result, or to behave in an unintended way.

When defects are found in software, they must be fixed before the software can be used. Otherwise, the software may produce incorrect results or fail to work at all. There are many different types of defects that can occur in software, and each type requires a different type of fix.

The most common type of defect is a bug, which is an error in the code that causes the program to crash or produce incorrect results. Bugs can be difficult to find and fix, because they often do not appear until the program is running on a real system with real data.

Other types of defects include faults (errors that cause the program to fail), design flaws (problems with the design of the program that make it difficult to use), and usability problems (problems that make the program hard to use).
