Buffer Stock

Buffer Stock Definition

A buffer stock is a minimum inventory of goods maintained to protect against unexpected shortages. The buffer stock is typically equal to the difference between the maximum and minimum level of inventory that a company wishes to maintain. A company may maintain a buffer stock in order to ensure that it can meet customer demand or production needs in the event of an unforeseen market change or disruption.
