A Capital Expenditure Request, or ‘CAPEX’, is defined as an expenditure requested for the purchase, improvement, or maintenance of a physical asset. CAPEX requests are usually made by companies to carry out activities that will benefit their business in the long-term. Examples of such activities include purchasing new equipment, expanding production facilities, and introducing new technology–all of which require upfront investments. By creating a CAPEX process and protocol, businesses can ensure that their resources are used wisely and strategically for projects that will yield financial gain in the future.
