Ghg Protocol (Scopes 1, 2 And 3)

Ghg Protocol (Scopes 1, 2 And 3) Definition

The GHG Protocol is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. The Protocol sets the international standards for quantifying emissions from major sources like power plants and factories, as well as from more diffuse sources such as employee travel.

There are three scopes of GHG emissions:

Scope 1: Direct emissions from owned or controlled sources

Scope 2: Indirect emissions from the generation of electricity, heat, or steam purchased by the company

Scope 3: Other indirect emissions not included in Scope 2.
