Logarithmic Scale

Logarithmic Scale Definition

A logarithmic scale is a nonlinear scale used when there is a large range of values. This scale is based on orders of magnitude, which are powers of 10. For example, the Richter Scale used to measure earthquakes is logarithmic, because an earthquake that measures 7 on the Richter Scale has 10 times the shaking amplitude than one that measures 6.
