Operating Income Calculation

Operating income is the total of all the income generated from a company’s core operations. This number is calculated by taking the company’s gross income, subtracting the cost of goods sold, plus their operating expenses. Operating income gives an indication of a company’s financial performance and health by showing how much money it makes from its core business activities. It provides a useful benchmark for measuring a company’s performance over time and helps guide future decisions.
