Pluralist Definition

A pluralist is someone who believes in the existence of multiple groups or perspectives within a society, each with its own independent interests. In a pluralist society, there is not one dominant group or perspective; instead, various groups compete for power and influence.

This type of society can be found in many democracies, where different interest groups lobby for their preferred policies. For example, in the United States, there are lobbies for businesses, labor unions, environmental protection, gun control, and many other causes. Each of these groups tries to influence the government to adopt policies that will benefit them.

Pluralism is often contrasted with monism, which is the belief that there is only one correct perspective or group. Monism can be found in societies that are dominated by a single religion or political ideology. In such societies, dissenting views are often suppressed.
