The term ‘treaty establishment’ or ‘TFEU’ refers to the European Union as an international organisation. The EU has its own legal personality, which allows it to enter into treaties with other states and international organisations. The Treaty on the European Union (TEU) is the founding treaty of the EU and sets out its purpose, principles, institutions and decision-making procedures.
