Waste Electronics And Electrical Equipment (Weee)

Waste Electronics And Electrical Equipment (Weee) Definition

The term ‘WEEE’ or ‘waste electrical and electronic equipment’ covers all items of electrical and electronic equipment that are no longer working or wanted, including those that are faulty.

This type of waste is growing rapidly due to the ever-changing technology and our increasing reliance on electrical goods.

In the UK, it is estimated that we generate around 1.3 million tonnes of WEEE each year and this is forecast to increase to 2 million tonnes by 2020.

The majority of WEEE (around 80%) comes from households, with the rest coming from businesses.
