Non-Governmental Organisation (Ngo) Definition

An NGO is an organization that is not part of a government and that works on issues such as social welfare, human rights, the environment, or international development.

Most NGOs are founded by people who have experience working on the issue they want to address. For example, someone who has worked in a developing country might start an NGO that provides clean water to communities there. Or, someone who has witnessed human rights abuses might start an NGO that works to stop them.

NGOs are usually independent from governments and political parties. This allows them to work on sensitive issues without worrying about upsetting politicians or government officials. It also allows them to speak out freely about the issues they care about.

However, because they are not part of governments, NGOs can sometimes have trouble getting the funding and support they need to do their work effectively. They also may not have the same legal protections as government organizations.
