Notional Value: The theoretical, non-cash value of an asset or obligation. This value is simply an estimate of what the asset would be worth in cash without taking into account any other factors such as market fluctuations, interest rates, and so on. It is often used in derivative contracts to determine the required margin amount for the contract. Notional value helps investors manage their risk by making sure they have sufficient collateral in case of losses.
