Fairtrade Definition

The Fairtrade certification mark indicates that the product has been produced according to internationally agreed Fairtrade standards. Fairtrade standards are designed to address the imbalance of power in the trading system and to enable producers to improve their livelihoods and plan for a more secure future. The standards cover key areas such as:

– payment of a fair price

– decent working conditions

– gender equality

– environmental protection

The Fairtrade Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation that sets the standards for Fairtrade in the UK. The Foundation works with businesses, growers and workers to make sure that the people who produce our food and clothes are paid fairly, work in good conditions and can build a better future for themselves and their families.

The Fairtrade mark is your guarantee that the people who made your product received a fair price for their work. When you buy products with the Fairtrade mark you are supporting farmers and workers as they take control of their own lives and livelihoods, empowering them to break out of poverty and build a brighter future.
