Company assets are the economic resources owned by a business. They provide value to the company, including monetary or physical capital, and can be classified as either tangible (physical) or intangible (intellectual). Tangible assets include cash, investments, inventory, machinery, buildings, property and equipment. Intangible assets include patents, goodwill, copyrights, trade secrets, and other intellectual properties. In order for an asset to be deemed official and recorded on a company’s balance sheet, it must contribute economic value to the organization.
