Assumptions Definition

An assumption is an idea that is taken for granted or accepted as true without being questioned. In other words, it is a belief that something is true, without any evidence to support it.

Assuming something means that you are not sure if it is true or not, but you believe it to be so. It also means that you are basing your beliefs on incomplete information. We all make assumptions every day – about ourselves, other people, and the world around us.

We might assume that our friend is having a bad day because they seem quiet and withdrawn. Or we might assume that someone is intelligent because they dress neatly and speak confidently. Making assumptions can lead us to form inaccurate judgments about others and ourselves.
