Process Bottleneck

Process Bottleneck

The official business definition of process bottleneck is a point in the process where the flow of a task or project is being hindered by a lack of resources or capabilities. This often occurs when the capacity of a particular process is less than the demand for it, resulting in a slowdown or even a complete halt in progress. For example, a bottleneck can occur when a particular piece of equipment is unable to handle the workload or when the available personnel are not adequately trained to complete the task at hand. Bottlenecks can also happen due to inefficient processes or inadequate communication between departments or personnel. In any case, process bottlenecks can be a major obstacle to the completion of a project or task, and should be identified and addressed as soon as possible.
