Impact Definition
In order to measure impact, we first need to understand what it is. Impact can be defined as the effect or influence that an individual or organization has on something or someone else. It’s the change that is made as a result of an action or series of actions. When we talk about impact in the context of social good, we are usually talking about positive impact – making the world a better place in some way.
However, it’s important to remember that not all change is positive. There can also be negative impact, which is when an individual or organization makes things worse. For example, if a company pollutes a river, that would be considered negative impact.
When we talk about measuring impact, we are usually talking about quantifying the change that has been made as a result of an action or intervention. This can be tricky to do, but there are various methods and tools available to help us do it. In general, we want to be able to answer three key questions:
1. What was the situation before the intervention took place?
2. What changed after the intervention took place?
3. How much did the intervention contribute to that change?
Answering these questions can help us understand the degree to which our actions are having an impact and whether or not they are having the desired effect. It can also help us identify areas where we need to make changes in order to achieve our goals.
