Agile Procurement Act Definition
The Agile Procurement Act is a federal law that allows the government to procure goods and services using an agile methodology. The law was enacted in 2018, and it applies to all executive agencies.
The Agile Procurement Act defines agile procurement as ‘a process for acquiring goods or services that emphasizes collaboration, responsiveness to change, and iterative delivery.’ The law requires executive agencies to use agile procurement when acquiring information technology (IT) goods or services.
Executive agencies must follow the requirements of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) when using agile procurement. The FAR contains the rules that govern how executive agencies acquire goods and services.
The Agile Procurement Act authorizes executive agencies to use other acquisition laws, such as the Competition in Contracting Act of 1984, when necessary to obtain IT goods or services using an agile approach.
