Behaviour Definition

There are many definitions of behaviour, but at its simplest, behaviour can be defined as anything an animal does. This includes both physical actions and internal states such as thoughts and emotions.

A more detailed definition of behaviour would include all the different ways in which an animal can interact with its environment, including through movement, communication, sensing and eating. Behaviour is also often described in terms of its purpose or function – for example, behaviours that help an animal to find food or mates are said to be adaptive.
