Bsi / Iso 20400
There are a number of different standards that organizations can adopt when it comes to sustainable procurement, but BSi / ISO 20400 and others offer a definition for what this means. Sustainable procurement is the management of the environmental, social and economic impacts of an organization’s activities throughout the supply chain. It includes all aspects of an organization’s procurements, from the sourcing of materials to the disposal of waste products.
The BSi / ISO 20400 standard provides guidance on how to incorporate sustainability into procurement decisions, and outlines a framework for doing so. It is based on the internationally recognized triple bottom line approach to sustainability, which takes into account environmental, social and economic impacts. Other standards, such as those from the Global Reporting Initiative or the International Organization for Standardization, also offer definitions of sustainable procurement.
