Bullwhip Effect Definition
The bullwhip effect is a term used in supply chain management to describe the phenomenon of increasing variability in orders that are upstream from the point of final sale. The name comes from the observation that a whip’s tip moves much faster than its base, even though both are being moved by the same hand.
In business, the bullwhip effect is often seen in consumer goods industries, where demand can be highly variable and difficult to predict.
