Business Needs Analysis Definition
A business needs analysis (BNA) is a process used to identify, assess and document the business requirements of an organization. It involves understanding the current state of the business, identifying the gaps between the current state and the desired future state, and then developing a plan to close those gaps.
The purpose of a BNA is to ensure that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives, and that everyone is working towards achieving those goals. A BNA can also help to improve communication between departments within an organization, as well as between different levels of management.
A BNA typically begins with a meeting between representatives of the various departments within an organization. During this meeting, each department will present their own individual requirements. These requirements are then collated and prioritized by the team conducting the BNA.
Once the requirements have been collected and prioritized, a plan is developed to address them. This plan will detail how the organization will go about achieving its desired future state. The plan will also include timelines, budget estimates and other important information.
The BNA process can be repeated on an ongoing basis to ensure that the organization’s goals and objectives remain relevant and achievable.
