There are a few main types of procurement which are common in business. These include direct, indirect, and preferred purchasing.

Direct purchasing is when a company goes straight to the source to buy their goods. This is the most straightforward method and can often get the company the best prices.

Indirect purchasing is done through an intermediary. The company will usually use this method when they are not able to source the goods themselves or when they want to outsource part of the purchasing process.

Preferred purchasing is when a company has a list of preferred suppliers that they regularly use for their goods and services. This allows for better price stability and quality control.
