Closed Change Definition

A closed change is a type of change that happens when something is changed, but the thing that was changed stays the same. For example, if you close a door, the door stays the same, but the state of the door changes from open to closed.

In terms of ITIL, a closed change is a record of a completed activity that has been carried out to modify or improve an IT service or other component in some way. Closed changes are typically initiated by raised requests or problems, and once implemented, the associated request or problem is also closed.

The main benefits of having defined procedures for closed changes are that they:

– Help to ensure that only authorized and agreed changes are made to live systems;

– Provide traceability and accountability for all changes made;

– Help to prevent unauthorized or unplanned changes from being made;

– Enable effective management and control of all changes made.
