Co-Ordination Evolution

Co-Ordination Evolution Definition

In biology, co-ordination evolution is the process by which two or more genes become functionally linked over time. This process can occur through a variety of mechanisms, including gene duplication, horizontal gene transfer, and convergent evolution.

Co-ordination evolution is thought to be an important mechanism for the emergence of new functions and the maintenance of existing functions in complex organisms. For example, it has been proposed that the development of coordinated movement in vertebrates was made possible by the co-ordinated evolution of a number of different genes involved in muscle contraction and nerve function.
