Compensation Event Definition

A compensation event is an event that occurs during the execution of a construction contract that gives rise to an adjustment to the contract price or programme.

There are four main types of compensation event:

1. Changes in the law

2. Changes in the design or specification

3. Unforeseeable physical conditions at the site

4. Delay in achieving key milestones
