Cross-Functional Team

Cross-Functional Team Definition

A cross-functional team is a group of people with different functional expertise working together to achieve a common goal. The term is often used in organizations where there is a need for collaboration between departments or functions.

For example, a product development team may be composed of individuals from the engineering, marketing, and sales departments. Each member of the team brings their own area of expertise to the table and works together to develop a new product.

Cross-functional teams can be temporary or permanent, depending on the needs of the organization. They are often used in situations where there is a need for quick decision making or when traditional hierarchies need to be bypassed.

The advantages of cross-functional teams include improved communication, greater efficiency, and increased creativity. However, the disadvantages include potential conflict between members and difficulty reaching consensus.
