E-Manufacturing Definition
E-manufacturing is the integration of computer and communication technologies throughout the manufacturing process to increase productivity and flexibility while reducing costs.
The goal of e-manufacturing is to enable real-time decision making, reduce manufacturing cycle time, and improve product quality. E-manufacturing systems provide the visibility and control necessary to optimize production processes and assets.
E-manufacturing technology includes enterprise resource planning (ERP), manufacturing execution systems (MES), computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), product lifecycle management (PLM), and supply chain management (SCM) systems.
