The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 is an Act of the Scottish Parliament that gives the public a general right of access to information held by Scottish public authorities. It also sets out exemptions from that right where disclosure of information would be harmful.

The Act provides a broad right of access to information held by Scottish public authorities, including central government, local councils and health boards. It also gives people the right to have their personal data corrected if it is inaccurate.

The Act came into force on 1 January 2005 and replaced the Freedom of Information ( Scotland) Act 1997.
