High Context Culture Definition

High context culture is a term used to describe societies in which communication is highly indirect, and in which people have a strong sense of community and place. In high context cultures, people rely heavily on non-verbal cues, such as body language and tone of voice, to communicate. High context cultures are often collectivist, and relationships are highly valued.

High context culture is the opposite of low context culture, in which communication is more direct and explicit. Low context cultures are often individualistic, and relationships are not as important.
