Indirect Materials Definition

Indirect materials are those that are used in the production process but are not directly attributable to the finished product. Indirect materials can include items such as office supplies, janitorial supplies, and packaging materials. While indirect materials may not be a direct cost of the finished product, they are still necessary for the production process and therefore must be accounted for in the overall manufacturing budget.
