Intellectual Property Rights (Ipr) Definition
Intellectual property rights are legal rights that protect creations of the mind. They give creators exclusive rights to their intellectual property, and allow them to earn recognition or financial benefit from their work. Intellectual property rights are divided into two main categories: copyrights and trademarks.
Copyrights protect original works of authorship, such as books, movies, music, and architectural designs. Copyrights are granted by the government and last for a set period of time. Trademarks protect brand names and logos used in commerce. Trademarks can be registered with the government or common law usage.
