A Jurat Notary is a form of notarization in which an individual takes an oath or affirmation and signs a document in front of a notary public. This kind of notary can be found most often on sworn statements or affidavits, where the document-signer must declare the contents of a written statement are true and correct under penalty of perjury. By having their signature notarized, the signer is formally attesting that they have read and understand the document and its contents, as well as agreeing to any actions that may be taken against them if there is a false or misleading statement within it. This type of notary provides both proof of identification and authentication of the signature.
