List Price
When we talk about the ‘list price,’ we’re referring to the starting point for negotiation in most business-to-business transactions. It’s the price that appears on a company’s price list, which is usually (but not always) publicly available. The list price isn’t necessarily the same as the company’s Wholesale Price or their Recommended Retail Price, but it’s a good starting point for understanding what they’re charging for their products or services.
In some cases, the list price may be non-negotiable, but in most cases, there is room for negotiation. For example, if you’re buying a car, the listed price may be non-negotiable, but if you’re buying office supplies, there is likely to be some wiggle room. The important thing to remember is that the list price is just a starting point – it’s not set in stone.
