Mitigating Actions

Mitigating Actions Definition

There are a variety of actions that can be taken in order to mitigate the potential negative effects of a crisis. These actions can be divided into three main categories: prevention, response, and recovery.

Prevention is any action that is taken in advance of a crisis in order to reduce the likelihood or severity of the event. This could include things like creating emergency plans, having backup systems in place, or establishing communication protocols.

Response is any action that is taken during or immediately after a crisis in order to address the immediate needs of those affected. This could include things like providing emergency medical care, evacuating people to safety, or setting up shelters.

Recovery is any action that is taken after the immediate threat of a crisis has passed in order to help those affected return to their pre-crisis state. This could include things like providing financial assistance, rebuilding infrastructure, or offering counseling services.
