Plaintiff Definition
A plaintiff is an individual who brings a civil action against another person or entity in order to recover damages. The plaintiff is the party initiating the lawsuit, and the defendant is the party against whom the lawsuit is filed. In some cases, a plaintiff may also be known as a complainant.
