Request for Information (RFI)

As the name suggests, a Request for Information (RFI) is simply a request for information from potential suppliers. It is usually the first step in a procurement process, and is typically used to gather information about products, services, or suppliers in order to make an informed decision about which option to pursue.

RFIs are generally less formal than other types of procurement documents, such as requests for proposals (RFPs), and as such they are often used when less detailed information is required. However, they can also be used as a way to screen potential suppliers before issuing an RFP.

In addition to basic information about products and services, RFIs can also include questions about pricing, availability, delivery times, technical specifications, and more. Suppliers should respond to all questions in an RFI in order to be considered for further steps in the procurement process.
