Responsible Sourcing Program Definition
The term “Responsible Sourcing” refers to the procurement of goods and services in a manner that takes into account the environmental and social impacts of the products or services being procured. A Responsible Sourcing Program (RSP) is a set of guidelines and best practices that an organization can use to ensure that its procurement activities are conducted in a responsible manner.
The goals of an RSP can vary depending on the organization, but they typically include promoting sustainable development, protecting human rights, and minimizing environmental impact. To achieve these goals, an RSP typically contains provisions governing how suppliers are selected, evaluated, and monitored. It may also require the organization to engage in outreach and education activities with suppliers and other stakeholders.
An RSP can be voluntary or mandatory. For example, some organizations choose to develop their own RSPs as part of their commitment to corporate social responsibility. Others may be required to implement an RSP by their customers, shareholders, or other stakeholders. In some cases, governments may also mandate the implementation of an RSP for certain types of procurements.
