Scope Creep

Scope Creep Definition

In project management, scope creep is the tendency for projects to grow in scope over time. Creep is often considered to be a bad thing, since it can lead to cost and schedule overruns. However, creep can also be managed effectively, by keeping track of scope changes and making sure that they are approved by the customer or sponsor.

Scope creep can occur when the project manager fails to properly document or communicate the requirements of the project. It can also happen when new features or functionality are added to the project without proper approval. Scope creep can be prevented by using a good project management methodology and tools, such as requirement gathering and change control processes.
