Sustainability Reports Definition
A sustainability report is an organization’s disclosure regarding its economic, environmental, and social performance. The purpose of a sustainability report is to provide stakeholders with information about an organization’s current performance and future plans with respect to sustainability.
There are a number of different frameworks that organizations can use to produce their sustainability reports. The most common framework is the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines, which provides a comprehensive and standardized approach to reporting. Other popular frameworks include the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 26000 guidance on social responsibility, the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) questionnaire, and the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).
Organizations typically produce annual sustainability reports, although some may produce them more frequently. Reports are usually released simultaneously with an organization’s financial statements. Many large organizations make their sustainability reports available on their website.
