Sustainable Definition

There is no one single definition of sustainability. The term “sustainability” is often used to refer to the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, social, and environmental. These pillars are also sometimes referred to as the triple bottom line.

The most commonly cited definition of sustainability comes from the Brundtland Commission, which defined it as “meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

However, there are many other ways to define sustainability. For example, some people define it as living within our planet’s carrying capacity, or using only renewable resources. Others define it in terms of social justice, ensuring that all people have access to the resources they need to live a healthy and fulfilling life.

No matter how you define it, sustainability is about meeting our current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to do the same. It’s about living within our means and ensuring that we leave our planet in a better state than we found it.
