Taxonomists Definition

Taxonomists are scientists who study and classify living things. They use a system called taxonomy to name and describe different species of organisms. Taxonomists usually work in one of three main areas: plant taxonomy, animal taxonomy, or microbial taxonomy.

Plant taxonomists study the classification of plants. They may work with flowers, trees, fruits, and vegetables. Animal taxonomists study the classification of animals. They may work with mammals, reptiles, fish, birds, or insects. Microbial taxonomists study the classification of microbes. These are tiny organisms that can only be seen with a microscope, such as bacteria and viruses.

Taxonomists use many different techniques to study living things. They may examine specimens under a microscope or take samples of DNA for analysis. They also use fieldwork to observe and collect specimens in their natural habitats.
