Common Procurement Vocabulary (Cpv)

The Common Procurement Vocabulary (CPV) is an EU-wide vocabulary used to describe goods, services and works contracts.

It is made up of a main vocabulary for identifying the subject of the contract, and a supplementary vocabulary for additional details about the contract.

The main vocabulary is made up of 8 digits, divided into 3 blocks:

– The first block (2 digits) identifies the sector (e.g. health, education, etc.)

– The second block (2 digits) identifies the division (e.g. medical equipment, books, etc.)

– The third block (4 digits) identifies the group (e.g. X-ray machines, printers, etc.)

The supplementary vocabulary is made up of 4 digits, divided into 2 blocks:

– The first block (2 digits) identifies the class (e.g. service contracts, framework agreements, etc.)

– The second block (2 digits) identifies the category (e.g. IT services, building work, etc).
