Configuration Management Strategy Document Definition
A Configuration Management Strategy Document (CMSD) is a high-level document that defines how an organization will manage its configurations. It is typically used in conjunction with other configuration management documents, such as Configuration Management Plans (CMPs) and Configuration baselines.
The purpose of a CMSD is to provide guidance on which configurations are to be managed, how they are to be managed, and who is responsible for each task. A CMSD should be tailored to the needs of the organization and the products or services being managed.
At a minimum, a CMSD should address the following topics:
• Scope: What configurations are to be managed?
• Change Control: How will changes to configurations be controlled?
• Identification: How will configurations be identified?
• Status Accounting: How will configuration status be tracked?
• Verification and Audit: How will compliance with the CMSD be verified?
