Force Majeure
A force majeure event is an extraordinary event or circumstance beyond the control of a party to a contract that prevents that party from performing its obligations under the contract. A force majeure clause is often included in contracts to provide a mechanism for the parties to deal with such events or circumstances.
There are many different types of events or circumstances that may be classified as a force majeure event, including natural disasters, acts of war, terrorist attacks, and pandemics. The effect of a force majeure event is typically to excuse the affected party from its contractual obligations. However, the affected party must still take reasonable steps to mitigate the effects of the force majeure event.
