Item Data Management

Item Data Management Definition

Item data management (IDM) is the practice of storing, maintaining and manipulating data about items. This includes metadata, such as item name, description, price and category. IDM also encompasses more complex data, such as warranty information, production dates and supplier details.

The goal of IDM is to provide a single source of truth for all item data. This means that any changes made to an item’s data are immediately reflected across the entire system. This can be a challenge when dealing with large quantities of data, but it’s essential for accurate reporting and decision-making.

IDM systems can be used to track inventory levels, monitor trends and predict future demand. They can also help businesses keep track of product quality and compliance with regulations. In some cases, IDM systems can even be used to generate automatic orders for supplies or replacement parts.
