Logistics and Logistician are two terms that have often been used interchangeably. In reality, however, they refer to different aspects of the same global network of activities. Logistics is an activity which involves planning, organizing and managing the physical flow of goods and services, from their point of origin to consumer locations. This includes the selection of suitable routes and carriers, storage and handling of raw materials, purchase and delivery of supplies, warehousing of finished products, distribution of products to points of sale, and ultimately delivery of these to consumers. Logisticians are professionals who specialize in logistics and supply chain management. They involve themselves with coordinating transportation, warehousing, and inventory control processes. Logisticians also focus on keeping detailed records of the products being moved, ensuring that required regulations are met, and employing relevant strategies to reduce costs.
