Redline Copy Definition

Redlines are copy edits that show changes to a document. They can be used for editing anything from emails to contracts.

Most redlines are done in Microsoft Word, using the ‘Track Changes’ feature. This allows the editor to insert comments and make other marked changes that can be accepted or rejected by the author.

Redlines can also be done in Google Docs, using the ‘Suggested Edits’ feature. This works similarly to Track Changes in Word, but is not as robust.

In general, redlines should be used for small edits and suggestions. For larger changes, it’s best to use a different method, such as commenting on the document itself or sending an email with your suggestions.
