Supply Chain Opportunism Definition

Supply chain opportunism is defined as taking advantage of opportunities that present themselves throughout the supply chain in order to improve profits or other outcomes. This can be done by, for example, exploiting information asymmetries, renegotiating contracts, or delaying payments.

Opportunistic behavior in supply chains is often seen as negative because it can disrupt relationships and lead to inefficient outcomes. However, some argue that opportunism is necessary for efficient resource allocation and that it can be managed through contracts and other mechanisms.
