A Data Mart is a subset of a larger data warehouse. It is designed to service the needs of one specific department or end user group within an organization, such as marketing or finance. While a normal data warehouse typically contains an organization’s entire historical data, a Data Mart only contains the relevant information needed by a specific department or end user group. It often stores less-detailed data that is easier to access and analyze quickly than the granular, historic data contained in a normal data warehouse. By selectively accessing only certain information from the Data Warehouse, users can save time and costs in terms of data storage and analysis.
